2nd Prompt of July. Decay. Less than 750 words and unedited.
‘I locked eyes with the coyote as it stood across the street from me.
Rooted to the spot, my feet wouldn’t move. I didn’t know whether it was through fear or fascination.
It looked as it was considering me, considering what It’s options were. It looked as shocked to see me as I was to see it.
With a sudden burst it dashed across the street and went down the alley way. I walked slowly to see where it was but I could no longer see it.
Could this day get any weirder?
Things had been strange from the moment I woke this morning. My senses heightened. I could hear the conversation the neighbours were having over the road. I could smell the food cooking 3 doors down. My carpet didn’t just feel soft against my feet, it felt like heaven. I tried to remember the previous night. Had I been drugged? I know I was drunk, I remember being at the club, all the drinks and the shots we had. The last thing I remember though was Fraiser slurring words at me I didn’t understand. We were still in the club then.
Then there were the scratches, my arms were covered in them and his neck. What on earth had I gotten into?
And where was Frasier? I called him 7 times this morning. He surely would have some answers as to what went down. He probably got us in another fight, seems to be all to regular lately.
I continued down the road. The sun hidden behind the clouds still blinded me. The smell of decay from the nights bins floated in the breeze. I didn’t know where to go, I just needed coffee. Lots of coffee.
I became aware of the black car before it turned the corner, there was something about it that didn’t sit right with me. I felt my pulse quicken. It slowed as it passed me, I could smell it stronger then. The smell of rot. I assumed it was the bins but it was this car. What the hell was inside it to smell like that.
I felt like a hole the size of planet open in the pit of my stomach, dread oozed from my bones. Fear, genuine unadulterated fear poured from me. Whatever this car contained was not something I wanted to come into contact with and with that thought I turned and ran.’
