Can You Survive Midsomer? By Simon Brew

(AD) Hello and welcome back. Today I have a book review which is very different to one I’ve ever done before.

Can You Survive Midsomer? By Simon Brew I’d an interactive novel in which the decisions you make effect the outcome. Thank you to Anne Cater at Random Things Tours for giving me this opportunity.

All is not well in the beautiful county of Midsomer. On the eve of its first Villages In Bloom competition, a man lies slain, smelling of damson jam. Who could have done it?

Well, that’s where you come in. Step into the shoes of Midsomer CID’s newest recruit, choose your own path and decide which way the story goes.

Could You Survive Midsomer? sets off on an engaging pick-your-own adventure format to challenge the reader to solve a crime or succumb to the county’s suspiciously high death rate. Set in television’s most celebrated and murderous county, the book allows readers to see if they can get to the bottom of the mystery and bring the perpetrator to justice, avoiding an untimely, and possibly bizarre death, along the way. Your task is to make the right choices, solve the case and – most tricky of all – stay alive!

Despite my love for all things true crime it would seem that I am not such a great detective.

Can You Survive Midsomer felt like a throw back to my childhood years when I had one of those mystery books which the outcome changed depending on your choices. This was the same but more for adults. As it turned out, while luckily I didn’t die, I also didn’t solve the case.

I had a lot of fun with this, it combined my love for mystery games and books in one and it was done superbly. I really felt like I was sleuthing around trying to find the perpetrator of a crime. I really enjoyed how it was set up and it means you can read this book multiple times and each one is different.

I have no had time to explore all the options yet but it’s something I can go back to time and time again.

I would love to see more books like this released. Not only was in intriguing, mysterious and fun but it was everything cosy crime should be.
