Bloggers Like Us #3: Autumn Approaching

Good morning and welcome to our 3rd Bloggers Like Us post. Today we are going to be taking an autumnal theme in our post and I will be discussing my plans for this season.

Autumn is my favourite time of year and as soon as September hits my head and heart is firmly planted into comfy sweaters, hot chocolate and evening walks.

Being a mother and a Witch autumn is a brilliant season for me. The children go back to school and I can get some routine with my days, the air is cooler so I feel more comfortable and love going out walking, the nights draw in getting darker and I can see a the glorious stars and of course there are the sabbats Mabon and Samhain (aka Halloween).

I am trying to make a very conscious effort to make home a place of growth, not just for me but for the whole family. Since the start of the year I have picked topics to learn about with my 4 (almost 5) year old daughter and we have picked a great topic for autumn.

We are going to learn about the solar system. I have gathered a lot of resources from Twinkl (which has free and premium membership) and have a few late evening beach trips planned later in the season to show her the night sky and constellations. I have been teaching her these since she was old enough to see them so many she will know already but I want her to experience them over a darker sky.

Aside from the educational part, we are also really looking forward to giving the house an autumnal make over, we have already started getting out some of the decor we have and it’s looking good so far.

I am having a road trip the weekend before Halloween with my besties. The 4 of us are traveling to Boscastle to attend The Dark Gathering at the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic. We plan to visit a few different places on the way to and from there too so it will be a busy but amazing weekend.

Autumn also brings with it a time for baking. I love to bake but during summer it is just far too warm to have the oven on. I have already started baking. Now my daughter is at full-time school I can make more time to do things during the day. If I plan my week effectively then there is no reason I cannot squeeze it all in. Today I am making ginger cake, which is one of my favourite things and works well with custard or as a snack with coffee.

I usually create a bucket list but I find that when life throws us a curveball I feel disappointed with myself for not achieving everything I wanted so I have decided to scrap that idea in favour of better mental health and self-esteem. This year I plan to ‘wing-it’ as they say. I am going to do what I fancy as and when I fancy it and take each day and weekend as it comes.

I don’t know about you but I am dying to get out there and kick about the golden, brown and red leaves that gather in piles.

I also have October and November to look forward to which will bring Preptober and NaNoWriMo which I am always excited for.

Please pop along to the other bloggers to read all about their Autumn.

  1. Ginger cake sounds heaven and I love the idea of stargazing with your daughter. Clear, Autumn nights make experiences memorable especially if hot chocolate is involved too.
I am envious of your Boscastle trip and hope to hear all about it when you return.
